New radio problem

My wife got me a new dvd radio for christmas. So i go to hook up the radio i wire it into the wiring harness and everything works but the sound. When the power to the radio is on i unplug the speaker harness and plug it back in and i have sound until i shut the power off and the process starts all over again. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Well...I've read left right and center that we supposedly have, or can have, a factory amp which is fairly well hidden behind the factory radio/tape deck. If you do have the factory amp you are probably going to have to bypass it. I haven't heard of anyone trying to incorporate it into a new system.

The factory amp came with the premuim sound system & has a small square plug that goes into the back of the radio as opposed to the longer rectangular plug. I had to get a special order harness to wire it properly. it's not the most powerful amp in the world but it does the job for now.
