well my 2002 F-450 started right up no issue....But my 1997 350 that has bee an on going issue starts and idles...and the volt meter goes up and down( which i think if when the glow plugs cycle?) then the truck idles rough and stalls and will not start again. While running my fuel filter light was on. I checked the filter last week and the fuel bowl was a little cloudy but i blew out the filter and ran it for a few days. its about 25degrees. Brand new glow plugs last week along with a STANDARD glow plug relay.....I run the white bottle of diesel trreatment in it..What am i doing wrong? If i plug it in for an hour it will start. But i never had to plug in my 2 vans or my f450.
First, I have had nothing but bad luck from Standard GPR's.
Second, do you have a chip on it or is it stock? I've seen chips make the volts jump up and down but it's most likely it's that GPR I would think.
Have you changed the PCM or anything or any other mods?
FWIW, I was just diagnosing a similar problem almost, except I was having a lot of white smoke on startup too. Mine wasn't stalling either but same thing on the volt gauge. My old GPR is borderline at .5 voltage drop across it but in further testing I found a loose pin in the number 3 glow plug at the UVCH. That was the glow plug I replaced a month ago for not working and being all carboned up. I should have checked it out a little closer. The volt meter on mine isn't jumping around anymore now and it's starting up a lot faster. No smoke so far but tomorrow morning will tell for sure.
There are so many little things that can mess up the GP system on these things.
I would also try starting yours with the ICP unplugged and see if that cures the stalling problem.
No matter how bad the GP system is if it starts it should stay running.
I thought the same thing. if it starts it should stay running. But it drops cylinders and it sound soooooooooooo bad. The truck is stock, i only have the 6637 mod under the hood. So the icp is under the valve cover right? So i can take the cover off and unplug it? Im new to this stuff.
