I'd have to weigh in with AXracer & nordvik72 about the OEM designed
Mustang 2. They just look so "underbuilt" when I see them on a big truck etc. Makes me nervous. I'm not any kinda engineer, but just looking
at em makes me thing "its just not enough". Just a common sense thing.
The modified beefed up units are fine I'm sure. And there are plenty of
improved designs around. And the OEM units were fine for the lightweight applications where they were used, but that's it!! Depending on the truck--some get pretty heavy--my 58 with a lot of extra stuff,460/c6 tranny plus other add on's. That thing weighs almost 4K. It adds up. I've got that giant OEM straight axle--And it feeeels good!
I suppose if you just ride around in parades and slow cruises to the local show and sit, it might be strong enough, but I drive a "bit" harder than that...
I'd feel a lot better about that CV install if the frame was boxed at least 6" past the mounting at both ends. Bolting thru the flanges weakens a C channel frame a lot more the drilling thru the face.
Sorry I have been off-line for so long. Another project bumped this that wasn't Ford (R53). After seeing a bagged F-100, happy actually was put on back burner, now looks as though may finally be ready to start nailing suspension setup. Hoping for some leads/help out here (again) to finish the search/decision.
Direction now will be air ride setup:
Accuair for the air management looks to be the right answer.
Front/rear suspension setup i'll need some schooling on to accomodate bags with some form & function. Don't want the truck dragging on the pavement but dependable comfortable ride & fingers crossed one-time worry free deal.
