heated seats

had a question about heated seats in my 99 navi. do they make the seat hot or just warm? when i hit the button to turn them on they seem to never really get hot, actually not sure they turn on cause after 5-10mins the seat is warmed up from me being in it,loL! but im assuming they work cause the light on the button comes on... its also in the low teens if not zero the past few days so its colder then average in the truck. but im going off of 2 other heated seat vehicles ( not ford ) i been in and both seemed to be noticeable within a minute or 2. also does it heat the entire seat or just the butt? and is there anyway to have them turn on after the truck is restarted? i have remote start and it would be nice if they would come on when i started from outside the truck instead of having to go out and hit the button... thanks!

I have a 99 Expedition with heated seats so they should be pretty similar. My driver side seat no longer heats up even though the light does come on. I think I read in here somewhere that it is most likely a broken wire in the seat and fixing it yourself is difficult. I have never had it fixed. The passenger side still works and it does heat up quickly and gets fairly warm. You definitely know it's heating.

yeah ive never messed with heated seats before , anyone have any pics of what the inside of the seat looks like or the part that actually heats the seat ? im guessing its just a bunch of wires running through the seat?

Exactly like my '00 Expy EB. Driver does not work (light does ) and passenger is fine. More than likely the wire inside the seat cushion has burned up which seems to be common. Might fix, might not. As long as the wifey has a heated seat we are good though

Never had the heated seats off of a ford. However i worked for a German car manufacturer. Had recalls due to shorts and over heating. The element or wire was sewn into the fabric backing. The element pattern was the same you see in heated blanket. It starts at one side goes to the other loops down a couple of inches then goes back to the first side and loops down again in the same pattern until it reaches the end of the area to be heated. Personally i hate leather interior and heated seats. But that why there is so many berers in the world, we all get to choose.
