BIG PROBLEM, NEED HELP!

Ok, I am driving down the road and trucks starts jerking like its starving for fuel. I have a half tank, and have been using Diesel Cleen Additive every other tank full. Its a high of 20 degrees with lows in the 0-5 area, and wind chill of colder.
Now the truck started jerking, and then just shut off. I had to sit for about 5-10 mins before it will start again. It will start and run fine for about 2 miles or less and then do it again, just start jerking and then shut off. Its been about 8k since my last oil change and have no idea what the problem is. I have been told it can be anything from low oil, needs oil change, hpop, bad fuel, or fuel pump.

there are alot of smart people on here, any of you have an idea!!! ??
Please email me dasher3@vzw.blackberry.net and ask for # if you'd rather talk on phone. thanks guys!

Won't start when warm is normaly a high pressure oil leak. Do you have any way of pulling codes. 8k is really a long time without changing the oil. Or at least checking it to see if it is low. Start with the simple things first. Just regular maintance change the oil I recomend using 5w40 synthic. And change the fuel filters. Remember use only oem brand filters on the truck. The " will fit" ones are known to cause problems. And go from there.

Start with the oil, then the fuel. Change your oil and filters and then take a look at your fuel filters.

The primary fuel filter(when on the frame) has an extra o-ring to it(or should, I haven't messed with a factory primary fuel filter since before the switch), that along with the extra bit of plastic to keep fuel from going underneath the filter when the filter is clogged has been known to cause pump issues. You might have gotten bad fuel from somewhere.

After doing the filters(oil and fuel) then look at individual components based on what you determine from the filters.

What year truck?
Any mods?
It may show 1/2 tank, but are you sure (do you keep track of miles per tank)?

i am going to take it to get oil changed and fuel filters in 15 mins. as for truck is an 04 f250 cc 6.0l with 132k i have a sct with extreme street and cant remember but the other street tune, which is lower in hp than the extreme which is what i have been running for winter. it also has 4in lift but not sure that would have anything to do with it.
as for miles per tank, i dont keep an exact reading, but i never let my truck get below 1/4 of tank, then i fill'er up.

It would be good to inspect the ICP and harness for oil leakage.

That sounds exactly like my ICP issue from July '08.

blackwidowf250, you've got to be religious about the maintenance on these 6.0L engines. Yeah, they cost more the operate...but like a well oil machine or happy wife/girlfriend things run sooooo much more smoothly when the 6.0L is happy. I'd think about doing the oil/oil filter changes every 5k and fuel filters every 15k...more often if you've gotten a load of crappy fuel. Filters are dirt cheap compared to injectors and other rotating equipment.

That is exactly what happened to me when i bought my first diesel P/U over 15 years ago.
Had it towed to the dealer and it turned out to be water in the fule line / filter.

Changed the fuel filters and have been running fuel additive EVERY tankfull since then w/o any problems.
Fuel filters should be changed about every 15K.

Ok, so my mechanic looked at my truck. To both of our surprise everything turned out fine. There weren't any probelms with it at all. Computer said it was good, fuel pressure was great. I have my truck back and it is running fine. This has us stumped, must have been some bad fuel.

That is good news - although a little frustrating I'm sure. If you don't already do it, try keeping track of your fill-ups and odometer reading for awhile. You may be able to correlate a future issue (hope you don't have them though) with a specific station or maybe when your fuel level gets to a specific point (the level gauge may not be reading accurately). I would consider using a quality fuel additive (cetane booster, water demulsifier, anti-gel, etc). Otherwise - enjoy!
