Weekend Progress

We got the Fat Man front end installed on New Years Day. I just finished putting the last things together and sitting it down on the new "tires". I am trying to get some pics uploaded, but it keeps kicking me out. I do have a question for the brake experts. When I put the caliper on the rotor, the outside pad locks down against the rotor and there is a gap about 3/8 to 1/2 inch wide between the pad and the rotor on the inside. I know the piston will push the pad to the rotor, but should it be that far off? If the pics will upload you will be able to see it.

Sorry y'all I can't get my pics to upload. Everytime I try it gives me a message " file failed to upload" What am I doing wrong? I am doing the same thing I did when I created my gallery.

Congrats on the progress!

While its true that there should be a gap between the pads and rotor on a new installation (at least until the system get filled with juice and pumped a few times) the 3/8 to 1/2 gap seems a bit excessive.

What kind of rotors and calipers are you using? are they made for each other -- example, on my disc brake set-up on my 49 I'm running GM calipers with Ford truck rotors.

I bought a complete hub to hub kit from Fat Man. I am pretty sure it is GM calipers with ford rotors. I plan on taking the assembly to a friend of mine who owns a brake shop in the morning.

Hmmm, sounds like it should all work together if it all came as a kit. Maybe try giving the tech line at Fat Man a call and see what they say....it might be ok

I called Fat Man today and actually talked to the owner, Brent. He said they had a problem with the bracket being out by 1/16. He told me to send them back and he would send me new ones. I decided to just take the whole assembly up to them. I am only about an hour away. He swapped them out and had to shave a spacer that has holding it off. He is a very nice guy, fixed the problem, and gave me gas money for bringing it to him.

That is awesome!!!

Huge round of frosties to Brent and the whole Fat Man group! That is how tech support and customer service is supposed to work. Its refreshing to hear about companies that stand behind their product.

Glad it all worked out for you

That is just great to hear! I have had not so good customer service with TCI and it is nice to have a good option.

Every bite of progress is great, sound like your having more trouble with the picture thing then the front end. Give it another try.

Now that is old school!!!

Wooden wheels, wow, you are definately one of those "outside the box" kind of thinkers......lol

The picture thing has been goofy lately. When I got to add pics to my galleries it usually freezes up the first time. Sometimes I have to kill the window and start over before it will take it. Once I have a pic in my gallery its easy to post it, I open it up, right click on it and select "properties" then on the box that pops left click three times on the URL address to select it and right click and copy it. Then in the FTE thread I click on "go advanced" and then in the little list of icons at the top of the box I select the one to post a pic. On the pop up box that comes up it will have a space with the first part of a URL address already in it and highlighted....delete that....now past is the address that you copied earlier and hit ok.
Now back in the thread you can click on "preview post" and see if it worked.

I don't know if that makes sense or not...I can do it but its hard to write it all out
Bobby
