I has this posted in another section and someone suggested I post here.
I have a 99 V10 automatic in my F250SD 4X4 took a trip from PA to Sc a few days ago running intersate speeds between 65 and 70 my fuel milage was around 12-12.5 mpg going down to SC, on the way back I was towing about 5000lb my mileage dropped to 7.25 I was was running at 60-62 mph with the tow haul/button on so my rpms was in the range of around 3200. Where the running poor comes in to play when I hit some of the hilly areas the truck would almost die, it didnt respond to throttle and rpms dropped off, let off the throttle and reapply and still didnt respond, if I did drop it down a gear to (2nd) it did respond. Also every now and then even while not towing I noticed the truck would lunge or miss a few beats then be fine. AutoZone did a scan but no misfires shown, the only code was for an O2 sensor on passenger side (I think it was the front one). Does anyone have any suggestions ?
TIA

There is only two O2 sensors one on each side if the y-pipe near the exhaust manifold flange. How many miles you have on the truck? If you have a 100K or more it's probably time to replace them.
I posted this in the other thread. When was the last time you clean your MAF? How about your air filter? Have yu check fuel pressure? Have you pulled you cat to see if it's clogged?

Thanks for the response Mike, I will do the MAF, the air filter is new , the fuel pressure was not checked and the cats were not pulled. The truck has 127k. I got a haynes manual today so any help I can get will be appreciated. I dont want to throw money at it but If I can try some things first just by cleaning parts I'll do that first. I will change the fuel filter tomorrow if I can get the lines off without any special tools other wise I will have to have my mechanic do that. BTW is the only way to check if a cat is clogged is to remove it ? Maybe I can give it a few raps with a hammer to see if I can knock it loose inside ?
Well I was always told if the cat was clogged it would make the exhaust smell sort like rotten eggs (sulphur). I don't know if it's true or an old mechanic's tale. Pulling and inspecting it inside would for sure tell you. I haven't seen to many post about the cat going bad so I don't think it's that common. Just something to keep in mind.
You are on the right track with cleaning the MAF and replacing the fuel filter first. Take care of the fuel and air maintenace and report back how it's performing.
imo Brake cleaner would work and not leave any residue just don't hold it too close to the sensor when spraying it and let it air dry before installing.
Today I cleaned the MAF and changed the fuel filter, the truck seems to have better response and for some reason its shifting HARD, I think it might chirp the tires when it shifts, I talked to my mechanic about this and he said it will shift easier once the computor "relearns" since I disconnected the battery before removing the MAF.....any truth to that ?
I really will need to hook back up and tow to see if its all taken care of.
I also scheduled an appointment with my mechanic to do a full scan next week to check for anything else.
When I was having issues with mine, I took it to a friend with a Snap-On diagnostic tool, and he told me he can't find some things on a Ford, unless they are doing it at that moment. I then contacted another friend, who was working at the Ford garage, and they have a scanner that will tell you more information. The Auto-Zone check just doesn't cut it with these things. You should do all the maintenance things that people will tell you about first, but if that doesn't fix it, you may have to bite the bullet, and take it somewhere.
i have a 99 as well and its not missing or not responding but is has felt very sluggish these past few months. changed the air and fuel filter as well as the fuel pump and nothing seems to be working. plannning on changing the sparkplugs as soon as I get a chance. what will cleaning the MAF do for me and well, what is the MAF and can a Mechanic do this for me not too familar with this hence asking what it is.

That code says that the sensor found a too rich condition. Not sure what it really means in the over all picture. I would wait to see if it comes back. If not you should still think about replacing the O2 sensors. They degraded as the miles pile on and will eventually fool the PCM into running the engine in a rich condition.
The PCM is a "learning" one and will eventually calm down a bit as you drive it more. There is a specific drive loop your suppose to do but I never worried about. Usually I just take it our for a drive afterwards and it seems to relearn fine.
