I have changed this filter 3 times and ended up smelling like diesel fuel for about a week. Is there a way to change it (or drain it) without making this mess?
Thanks
Does anyone know where to go to add a signature.. I have looked and looked and cannot find it for the life of me!

The drain plug can be changed out with a different style that allows for draining with less mess. Don't know the part # right off, but I believe you can get it from DieselSite.com
You could wear disposable vinyl gloves also.
To add a sig, click on User CP up on the tool bar. Don't know if you need a certain # of posts first.
When doing the fuel filter it also helps to have the truck down hill a bit, and less than a 1/4 tank of fuel, better if its < 1/8th and you wont get near as wet. There is also the updated turn out, but, with a lot of fuel in the tank, still get a wet hand, arm, armpit, ect.

Let your tank get down a ways before you change the filter. Parking with the nose uphill helps a bit too.
I cant say this will work on a stock height truck, but my truck I can wedge a funnel between the driveshaft and frame, put a pan under it, remove the plug and never get a drop on me, the ground or the frame/driveshaft.
I subscribe to the wedged funnel under the HFCM and a clear used juice jug so I can see the dirt and water that comes out. Here is the upgrade plug...can be purchased many places now...even the dealer has them.
1. Let the water drain run until it stops. This will minimize the amount of fuel still in the filter housing.
2. Use a 5 gal bucket under the housing. Fumbling around with a funnel must makes a bigger mess. I use wide mouth kitty litter buckets. They are white, so you can see dirt or water.
3. Most of the fuel that gets on you runs down your arm. Solution - keep your arm above the fuel as much as possible.
