My cousin has a 94 f250 when your driving along it feels like someone just shifted it into natural but if you pull it down into 2nd it shifts and you can keep going. He just bought the truck so dont know much history of it. Any ideas to try would be much appreciated
the three most common items in order
vehicle speed sensor in rear axle
the transmission range sensor
the tach sensor
have someone check for codes or you will spend tons of money replacing good parts
I don't know much about automatics.
But, the first thing I would check is fluid level and color.
Then, I'd go ahead and do a fluid and filter change.
We started having hard and inconsistent shifts in my Dad's truck, we flushed the system of old fluid and re-filled with new fluid and did a filter swap. Like a new truck again!
