cam!

fellas i'm trying to figure out what cam would be best. i'm building a 351w for my truck it's going to be a roller block bored 30 over with gt40 heads, a preformer intake and 600cfm carb, shortie headers with a C4 trans with 3.55 or 3.73 gears on 28 inch tires. my question is what cam do you guys think would work best. it'll be a daily driver no towing or hauling now but who knows what's down the road. i want the power that's why i'm going 351w.

Comp cams 35-413-8 would do it.

oh! well i'm starting from scratch! i'm buying a 351w shortblock roller, punched 30 over, i'm getting the gt40 heads as stated above. the truck currently has a 302 stock that is very worn out(farm truck) C4 tranny w/308 gears.. eddy performer intake and 600cfm carb

Compared to a stock 302 this is going to be a monster.. more power everywhere and especially lots more TQ. I just discovered the cam I suggested above is a retrofit cam so you don't want that one, the comp 35-420-8 or similar is what you should be using.

ok thanks for the help. now i'm happy because the builder was offering the b303 cam & i wasn't too sure about that for this build. the gt40 heads will have the 1.6 rockers with new springs and seals (basic clean up). i can't wait to start ordeing the parts when i get home.....

302 and 351 motors use the same cams so don't worry about that, the B cam is a bit wild for a truck motor IMO, the E cam is better but neither will produce as wide a powerabnd as the Comp 35-420-8.

Conanski is right.... those motorsports cams are car cams, and will lack the low rpm torque of the comp sticks....

well i called the place where i want to get the engine from. he said that he could supply the lifters and cam with a similar grind to the comp cam 35-420-8 for about $240 more which isn't bad. he also went down the list of cams that he offers but he went to fast to write them down. but i'll find out what he has before i order it.

The Summit 3600 is not a roller cam and that's why its so cheap.
