the place that i'm getting the block from doesn't offer the lifters at all so i would have to get the cam lifters & push rods as well as the timing gear set
what is a comparibale Edelbrock cam to the comp cams 35-420-8 cause price wise the comps cams and lifter set isn't cheap!!!! i like the idea of making great hp but i'm on a slight budget

Then you would need all the stuff Terpfords listed. I usually just buy a complete core. Got my non-roller and a stand for $200.
Go to craigslist or if you know of any mustang guys in the area just ask them. The roller lifters are quite durable and are not normally a big concern as far as mileage. Make sure you get roller cam compatable springs.

That is a FMS E cam or crane 2040, great cam, but you may need a converter. They can be had for 1/2 price all the time from mustang guys. I would not pay over a $100 for one. They cannot be "worn" Your only real concern is if one were to be bent from some laying around there garage. Where do you live?

Roller cam and lifter sets aren't cheap. This advice goes double for the cam itself. Used is the best way to build on a budget sometimes. Mustang guys are always swapping out cams for bigger and better after very few miles and the cams they find out they don't want are usually well suited to what you are trying to do. New lifters aren't all that expensive if you just buy OEM.
I have an HO cam & i think i got the lifters to , I also have a 95 302 roller motor that needs rebuilt , but it has the dog bones & spider , will the spider fit the 351 ??....Lew
I have never personally built a 351 but I am almost positive there are no fitment issues. Yeah, if he lives nearby I have some of the same stuff, but it shouldn't be a big issue getting some of this stuff.

The Edelbrock is a smaller cam than the Comp. Check the notes on the link:COMP Cams: Magnum, 270HR <BR> Mild Street Performance, Good Stock HO Replacement. He should be fine with the stock converter.
I don't know about the E303 or Crane 2040, I don't know the specs of those off the top of my head, but I think they are stock converter compatable as well.
Thanks Doug , I work on alot of 302s but have never done a 351 , wasn't sure about the spider , i just know the 351 is wider...
The widening takes place above the valley I'm pretty sure. With the same lifters and timing chain, water pump, ect. if would pretty much have to. It's the cylinders that are longer and therefore the pushrods as well.
I guess I should add this caveat- I'm only 98% sure.
A stock HO cam has a decent idle, but any of those cams will sound better than stock for sure. A E-cam has a real good idle and if it will work with a stock converter than it will make a great budget combo.
