For some inexplicable reason, if I have my rear wiper on the INT1 setting, it will run in that mode for some time, quite some time. Then, I hear a thump and it goes back into the off position. But the switch is still in the INT1 position.
HEH? Problem? Performing as designed?
That's not what the intermittent settings is supposed to do. I've run my in mist on intermittent for 3-4 hours at a time and it stayed on as long as I maintained setting.
I had similar problem with front wipers while my '97 was under warranty. Seems a loose connection was affected sometimes when I touched stalk to use turn signals. Good luck, Roy
hi...my 97 expedition has the same problem..at the dealer once...a very nice mechanic told me it is a problem with the motor in the wiper...he said that unfortunately they havent updated the motor yet..and if i replaced it..it would just happen again..he said to grab the wiper..and forcefully shake it back and forth (up and down)..and it will start working again...he is right..it does work doing that....hope this helps....
I can only thank you for this information. I have an 1999 EXP-EB and my rear windshield wiper stop working, I was ready to take it to the dealer when I came across your information. It works like a charm now.
Anyone having problems with their rear wiper chipping the paint above the area where the wiper rests? When I turn off the rear wiper, just as it sets in the position off the windown it makes a loud thump. I'm wondering if that's when my paint is getting chipped....
My rear wiper motor is acting up again. The current rear wiper motor is the third one in this vehicle and it has just over 50,000 miles on it. Fortunately this one is still under warranty by two weeks. This time the wiper arm will not return to the park position. I am taking it in to the dealer on Wednesday. Previously, the motors stopped working. This is a new failure mode for me. Has anyone else encountered the problem of the wiper arm not returning to the park position?
I was at the dealer yesterday and of course it worked fine for them each time they tried the rear wiper. I tried to show them also and I could not get it to act up. I tried the rear wiper yesterday evening again and it was fine again. I will keep trying. I'm beginning to suspect the multi-function switch as I recently noticed one time that the front wipers were not working properly. Once I wiggled the directional stalk slightly the front wipers worked fine. I hate these intermittent problems because everyone knows they will fail at the most inopertune times.
