I recently found a 460 that was in an old delivery van bolted to a c6. I looked older and had no #s cast into the heads. It had the place milled flat for the # but no casting #s not sure of the year but I was wondering if this is something good or not. I have never seen a head with no #s before.
Sometime in the early '80s Ford started putting the head casting numbers on the underside, on the lip that extends over the center valley.
You'll have to pull the intake and use a mirror to read them - or else pull the heads.
Check the block casting number for D9 or later, and that will tell you - unless it has been rebuilt and the heads replaced. The '80s carburetted heads are not significantly different in design, just the smog ports on the back are used, instead of being plugged on the earlier ones.
