I bought a parts truck because I need to swap cabs on mine. The 72 cab has the factory A/C . I am confused as to what functions it provides. It obviously has the provision to take in fresh air from the cowl. But there is a grill in the front and an opening in the top of the unit as well. Does anyone know if and when there is a recirculate function ? Also those who have a functional unit.. does it provide dehumidified defrost ? By that I mean, does it pass through the heater core first, and then over the evaporator to condense the moisture off the air ? I really want this function to prevent foggy windows in the winter.
The a/c only works with the bottom function control lever in the a/c mode only. And when the function control lever is in the a/c mode, air is diverted through the a/c registers.
When the function control lever is placed on defrost, the air is diverted to the windshield, but the a/c is switched off.
You can have the top temperature control lever turned to hot with the function control lever placed on a/c to dehumidify the cab in the winter, however, it will only blow through the a/c registers by design.
Thanks for the help. I guess the ability to de-humidify is a plus, even if it can't be directed to the windshield. I will probably refurbish the unit and install it then. It is one of the few units I have seen that doesn't have the grill broke out of it. Most haven't survived the foot kicking passengers.
