My 98 F150 w/4.6, appx 140,000 miles is using about 2 quarts of oil between oil changes. (3,000 miles) No leaks, no smoke. Truck has always had regular oil changes. Any idea where it's going?

I assume you have the remote oil filter up in the drivers wheel well. Take a look at the hoses going to the filter, maybe it only leaks under pressure.
either the valve stem seals or rings.more than likely the valve stem seals.and 2 qt of oil is within fordsa guide lines of oil consumption even on a new engine, they allow 1 qt per 900 miles.i dont agree with there miles.my boses truck has 189k on it and it uses 1 qt every 3-4 k.
my dads 02 5.4 has lost 1 qt every 3000 like clock work since brand new, and the engine runs perfect, no smoke, no obvious leaks, and when the plugs were changed they were darn near perfect. so go figure. but 2 qts? idk bout that one. i would double check under your oil filter to be sure you dont have an old seal or two stuck under the filter, and if you do have a remote filter check everything related to that as well. if you have it, and if i were you id see about changing that back to a filter on the engine, where it is more protected. i have never seen or heard good things about the remote oil filter. (very easy to damage, especially with rocks)
Check real good for extenal leaks and fix as necessary.
Engine oil is cheap, engines are expensive, keep it topped off.
Oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild if it is running properly.
Higher than normal oil consumption is a fact of life sometimes. Live with it.
