I just purchased a F 250 SD with a 5.4 V8. She is awesome! Hi miles, but I'm a motor head so I can rebuild her with ease. Looks kind of difficult pulling out the engine with a cherry picker, very tight!
By the looks of my stock exhaust system, i'm in need of a new one soon. Is there an aftermarket kit from the exhaust manifolds back? I've found cat back systems, but no complete kits from the exhaust manifolds back. I kind of want to stay away from headers. I've had plenty of hot rods, I'm just looking for a larger exhaust from the manifolds back.
why do you want larger pipe? i don't know what year your truck is, but my '99 came with factory 3" all the way back... which IMO is plenty of breathing room for the tame engine. thats why i kept all the stock piping and went with a magnaflow cat converter, muffler, and stainless tip.. all for less than $150.
To my knowledge, no one makes a complete exhaust system for the Super Duty trucks with the 5.4L engine. I've been looking for the past 1.5 years with no success. You best option is to have your local muffler shop fabricate a y-pipe with new cats. Then, you can either use one of the few available aftermarket cat-back exhaust kits or have the muffler shop fabricate a cat-back exhaust system of your choice.
I'm assuming you have a 00'-04' SD. The biggest restriction points on the stock exhaust system are the y-pipe T and the exhaust manifolds, the stock 3" piping is more than fine. Never saw a full replacement system for the 5.4l SD but ones are made for the 6.8l SD that replace everything from the manifolds to the tailpipe. I would replace the stock manifolds with headers, its only a matter or time before you have broken manifold studs that need replacing.
dont waste your money on the dynomax system!!! mine just fell off, lasted a whole 3 years, and about 20,000 miles. The pipes are still on the truck, but the muffler litterly fell off!!
Now I am running no muffler what so ever. Should I have any concerns? Cant say if the truck is running weird... or if my head is playing tricks on me?
