Hey guys I currently drive an 06 Volvo S60R, I was looking at getting a 1980s (dunno the year) F350 that needs a started for next to nothing from a friend, or spend some money and get what a really want something thats diesel and 4wd. What do you guys think is worth getting? the f350 is 2wd and gas engine, any thoughts from you guys?? thanks for the help!!
this would be my secondary vehicle, would like 4wd for snow and all but my volvo is 4wd, do you think the f350 would be worth it? i dont need a truck but would like to have one to use when i volunteer i need one but i dont need one for work.
If you are going to keep the car for 4wd, then go ahead and get the 2wd truck. Less stuff to go wrong and better fuel mileage with a 2wd truck. You do need to find out more about the truck though. Most anything can be fixed, but if it's really rusty, I would pass on it, even if it was free.
o ok thanks for the advice, o yea i would def keep the 4wd car its my dd, i would use the truck to do volunteer work and help friends out, all i know was it was used to carry horses till bout 3 years ago and it was in great shape then, since then it has sat ( ppl that had to horse farm sold it) and not moved in a grass field, so i ofered to take it and see what i can do. thank you for the advice
another question I had was, is it possible to make the 2wd into a 4wd? is it a straight bolt on with stock brackets or not?? any thoughts on both questions??
If it was a f150 it would be a straight bolt in. Since it's a f350 it's possible, but you will have to do a little fab work installing the spring hangers and and stuff up front. If you wanted to do it, it would be best to get a dana 60 straight axle from a 85.5-up f350 and use it. You would have to fab up the spring hanger brackets, but if you get the steering linkage, driveshafts, and 4x4 tranny with a transfer case, all that would bolt in.
How often do you need a truck? If its only a couple times a year, you could probably rent one for what insurance and tgs would run you (not to mention all the nickel/dime stuff that WILL break) If you like to and can work on it yourself then get a truck. Just my $.02
If you do not really need a truck, why not hold out until you find what you want? I would love a Diesel 4x4 F-350 crew cab. In the first post, you said what you want. This might be a good deal, but if it is not what you want, you will want to sell it in time and get what you really want.
