Replaced the Fuelpump on the 78 F150 las year. It only lasted two month's. It's replacment only lasted a couple of month's. Now the third one is dead. They are form Auto Zone, but that can't be the answer. THis truck is stock, 460, one tank, good gas, and no hot rodding. Can it be a "wrong pump"? Did they give me the wrong one to begin with?
This is cumbersome, as it's hard to change, and a long way from me, so I could use some good suggestions.
Thank's
Have you looked for a blockage at the pickup tube?
I went through 2 electrics, and a mechanical, before I discovered I had a blockage at the pickup in the tank.
DH I'm curious, why do you think that Autozone, doesn't have any crap pumps. They are not your high end store to start with, like a NAPA. I'm not saying that they do, but??????

Ok, When you disconnect the fuel line that goes from the `Frame area to the `Pump...will fuel run out on its own (`Sipon from the tank to a coffee can Gravity feed! if not the line is blocked OR the gas cap vent is pluged!!
Just good to check that gass is Free Flowing from the tank line...
A little update: When the 2nd pump failed, it put a couple of gallons of gas in the Crankcase. I never heard of a low pressure or a high pressure blockage causing a failure like that. I put a new Flex line on, and there is an inline filter, of glass, that's clear, and full of fuel, but this happens suddenly, and completly when it happens. A new Pump fixes it.
On the AutoZone/NAPA question. I've had more failures with NAPA. It's always guarenteed, but more with NAPA. I still buy from both stores too.
I just finished building my 70 F100 and had a brand spanking new pump from Pep Boys and it couldn't even get gas up to my glass filter even after I syphoned it up by disconnecting the hose at the carb. However I took off that new pump and hooked up the old one that was dragging under the truck when I received the truck and it pumped up fine. I had thrown my new pump box away because I installed it while th motor was on the engine stand and never thought in a million years that it might be bad. I took it back to them in a plastic bag and they tried to give me a hard time aboout not having the box...Well I told them Hey I didn't buy a box...I bought a pump that dont work! They gave me my money back
