ok so i replaced the tranny I had it rebuilt cause the bearings and synchros were shot , i know the clutch and trans are working properly because it will go into gear fine and will drive down the road just like it should but the other day i was out plowin and i did a donut lol and it grinded and popped out of gear but if you push the clutch it will go back to normal .. ok so right at first it would go 4 miles or so and it got progressively worse it went to one mile then 100 yards now its 15 feet !! .. it makes a chunk noise and you can feel something lock up for a second then it pops out of gear .. did i shear a transfer case gear? heres what i have replaced rebuilt t19 which works good, slave cylinder, and flushed and filled trans and transfer case with correct fluids .. if it is a transfer case which all cases will bolt up directly besides a 1345 so i can look for one.. sorry for the long post
This is not 100% but I think the 1356 will swap in.
Does it do the same in 2x and 4 lo.
Now I'm going to explain like I did with my son These are heavy and have more traction than a light rig when you play and they grab a little traction something breaks. Yea he had to find out for himself as did I but he told me he would just stick with playing in his mudboggers instead of his daily driver. He still tears up parts but still has a way to work without burning the midnight oil. Good luck and I know it sucks huh.
yeah iv been doing all my snowplow accounts with a snowblower it does suck haha but you think its transfer case related ?? i was in 2wd when i did the donut ,and yeah these suckers do grab traction !! oh almost forgot it wont go in 4 lo or 4 hi its just 2wd and it still acts up
alright i was readin wreckin ball's post about his 1356 problems and it sounds very similar to my problems but it sounded to me like he was rollin in 4x4 not 2wd like me but i hope its just the t case thats so simple to swap out and pretty damn cheap around here too like 100 bucks or so .. i dont have the time or know how to rebuild mine either im a swap in junk yard parts kind of guy haha.. im thinkin i ran it out of fluid unknowingly come to think of it cuz the first night i plowed a couple weeks ago me and a buddy smelled burnt oily metal smell when i was runnin in 4x4 down the highway and it made a weird whining noise and i had the hubs locked regardless of 2wd or 4x4 so i could put it in 4x4 with out getting out of my truck.. maybe that just did it in cause the next morning was when the poppin out of gear started
Now I know you turned it by hand and shifted it and checked the oil in it while it was on the ground and real easy huh. remember it takes atf and not gear oil.
hey ther bro, yeah reading your post, i can tell you that it probably is the shift fork. mine wore through the plastic tab and then wore through the aluminum fork itself. I got a nice replacement for 50 bucks from a guy on the net. Worked well and been kicking since. That and now i have a fresh rebuilt spare!! Did you see my pics of it? It was all in the post. Let me know if you need the manual for tear down and rebuild!

oh and by they way, they are the easiest thing in the world to tear down and put back together. Just let me know if you need info like i said!
alright will do i really appreciate it .. i have a couple u joints to replace also so i gonna do that too cuz someone said this could cause clunks ik there shot but would it kick it out of gear?? i found a transfer case out an 86 f250 t19 460 gas for 100 bucks im bout to go get it should be a 1345 right? cause the add on craigslist said 1355 but i think he just missed a number cuz it was all original so it shouldnt be a 1356 right?
iv been doing ALOT of reading and i think 1356 is 87-96 fords ... i hope its just a jacked up t case and not something else that i will have to pull out the trans .. I hate doing that lol its so heavy and awkward.. but that $3 alignment tool sure was handy star !!
You want to talk heavy and awkward. How about lowering and raising an E4OD with a 1356 still attached. Now that was heavy and awkward.
Hey wreckin ball, glad to know you got yours figured out.
Whatever the problem is, the transfer case is really easy to tear down. Pisses me off because all the home mechanic shop manuals don't show it anymore. You can sometimes find older haynes or chiltons books that show you how to rebuild them, but no more.
"due to the complexity of the XXXXXXX we feel that if you are dumb enough to buy this manual, then you are too stupid to repair the XXXXXXX yourself"
Well, ok, they use words like "beyond the scope of the home mechanic" but you get the idea.
alright guys i totally had a brain fart the not going into 4x4 was forgetting to lock hubs lmao my bad .. but i still think its tcase related so i got anther 1345 for 100 bucks tonight and will swap it in tom. morning and post my results . oh the old t case was filled with fresh atf right b4 my test drive .. i was thinking maybe the lockup feeling could be rear end related but it runs smooth down the road when its not actin up so this wouldnt be rear end related would it? it sounds and feels like its right under my seat ( where the t case is )
