Can a GPR work"sometimes"(i know that sounds stupid) as compared to everytime you turn the switch on?The reason i ask,i was out checking my GPR with a multi meter, the first time i turned the switch on,i went around to the front, and was getting nothing from the"drivers"side post(i was getting 12.something at the"passenger" side post),i went back, turned it off, turned the switch back on and was getting like 10.82,and the duration was correct it stayed on well over a min.(didn't time it exactly).Reason i'm checking, last winter I didn't have too,but this winter(when it's below 25,i have to cycle the GP's twice before she'll start).I replaced the GPR about a year and a half ago with a NAPA replacement........Thoughts.....thanks......Phil
Even if the relay works every time the contacts can get pitted and don't always pass the current. There is a round contact on top of the armature that is supposed to rotate slightly each time the relay operates so it makes contact across the two upper contacts at different spots. This is supposed to extend the life of the round contact. It doesn't really do anything for the two small contacts. Just by cyclng the GPR you may get better contact. Here's a pic so you get the idea. This is an extreme example of my original GPR at 82K miles. The two small contacts are the ones that face the round contact and are actually the two posts. I suspect the Napa GPR isn't quite the quality of the OEM and is either operating intermittently or not always making contact.
Idk about voltage drop w/o searching, but mine just did work intermittently. I replaced it with the International part. It was $35. NAPA had the 110 for $70. From what I have heard you can get the 109 for $35 and it is just rotated???

I have a new thought. Install the GPR LED! You will KNOW when it is coming on (or not) and you won't have to get out the MM and deal with no starts.
This is how I knew mine was operating intermittently. Mine was really crazy. It would not turn on and then when you would start to crank it would turn on. I am guessing it was a little sticky and then when the motor shook it would engage.
Here is the link to the GPR LED mod. Who did that awesome writeup!?! https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ml#post5985110
