good thing about the internet is that i can't see you rolling your eyes when i ask a dumb question.
i am looking for some OEM steel 8 lug rims to convert my truck back to a single rear wheel set up...and have a spare. so...how are rims measured? from outside to outside? or where the tire bead seats? my reason for asking is that i have read about 16.5 in rims on older trucks...as well as people mounting 16in tires on 16.5 rims. in my junk yard search i want to be sure i know what i am looking for, or at.
the tires on my truck now are 235/85/R16. however when i put the measuring tape across the rim...well...outside to outside is at least 16.5.
can anyone straighten me out?
my truck is a '78 f250 custom 4x4 dana 60 front and rear.
On most all rims the size will be stamped into the front face of the rim. Fords are stamped with the width and dia. along with the manufacturer. They will be stamped on the horizontal surface just behind the area the wheel weights cover.
If you are looking for stock steel Ford 16" 8 lug rims, it is easier to find and ask for E250 van wheels. I ran into this when I called several wrecking yards.
If I asked for F250 truck wheels Up through 1997, they would tell me they did not have any but if I ask for van wheels they had plenty in stock.
They are the same wheels.
thanks for the help! i found a set of 4 wheels for 20bucks.... but that guy won't respond to email...of course.
i was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice the mud flaps! hahahah. this was a farm truck, and i have no idea how the chevy flaps made it on this truck...but, yeah, i think it's kind of funny, although they will be amoung my first changes to make. or i could just say something like...chevy is best used to catch the mud from a ford? lol.
