I would like to know if it is just me or are all 73 - 77 3 speed auto. steering columns hard to find??? I have gone to allmost all reckers in town and have yet to find a f150 with its column in tack.
I am having a problem keeping the shift tube seated, as it always springs back up making it hard to sift into park.
I have only owned this truck a few mts. and just now tring to learn. any help out there would be of great help.
Tom If I can offer a tip, til you get the parts needed. Lift the shifter from first while pulling it toward you. Try with the shifter between your thumb and forfinger, palm down and flick your wrist to lift it out, while pulling it towards the wheel. Once it clicks into the neutral, let the springs pull it downward and apply the same technic to go into second. You don't want to pull it hard towards you. I learned that trick back in the 70s while driving the mid and early 60s trucks. Those trucks were notorous for jambing between gears. You would have to get out and pull the shift lever up to unlock them.
That little trick allowed me to drive vehicles that everybody else had problems with.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
I have a steering column that came out of a '79 F250 auto if that is what you need. I would sell it to you if you are interested. E-mail me at dholder@surry.net and we can talk about it more.
Thanks for the tip... however I do have that under control. I can shift mostly normal but do have to resort to the same tactics you discribed, from time to time. I do think the previous owner did not reinstall the shift column correctly, and I can not find another to learn on as they are no where to be found at any of the "pic-a-part" places I have been to. I guess what I need is good diagram of one.
