Axle Codes

I am looking at a 9" that isn't covered under Deleons post. The tag reads DC CA4 1JC 75 9 115A Does anyone know what the ratio is on this? Thanks in advance for your help. Mike

BigTex, Is the plastic decal still on the cab in the drivers side door striker plate area? Look on that decal and see what it lists your axle code as. Should be 2 digits. The number you gave is a Ford part number for the rear end, which could be de-coded at your Ford dealer. On that metal tag on the rear end was there more numbers like 3.54 or something similar. What year is your truck?

When you wrote the code down off the tag, did you have it in your hand or is it still attached to the truck? Reason I'm asking is because what you wrote down as '115A' is (taken by the order you wrote the info down in) in the area where the ratio is stamped. You may have to take the tag right off and clean it thoroughly to read it correctly. Also recheck the '1JC' as that is supposed to be a date code but it doesn't look right. Hope this helps.

Use caution when reading the tag - the first digit is really close to the bolt that attaches the tag. From seeing the "75" digits you posted, I'd bet there is a "2" in front of them (about 3/8" away) - meaning the axle is a 2.75:1 open which was used on late 70's trucks. I'm not aware of any 3.75:1 or 4.75: ratios.

Hey guys. Unfortunatley, there is no truck attached to the rear end. It is loose on the ground. It didn't even look like a truck 9"er. It aooeared to have coil spings supports attached. It also has the little eyebrow on the top edge. I am looking at this because I need a narrower rearend to support wide tires and 600HP. As for the numbers I was as diligent as the circumstances permitted in writing the numbers down. Thanks.

Big Tex, The ford axle tags that I have seen, which are few, always started with the gear ratio first. Could it be that you are not looking at a ford 9er as suggested.
