I'm sure this has been asked, and I've searched and searched with no luck.
I picked up an early '97 f250 powerstroke, (so effectively a '96) . The bracket at the base of the 4wd shifter is broken which I've heard is common. I'm able to change the transfer case with plyers from under the car.
Does anyone know the part number for that bracket? I'm having trouble finding it online.
Both good sites, thanks. But neither seem to have what I'm looking for, although I found a bunch of other stuff I need at broncograveyard.com
Still looking, I'll try some local junkyards when I'm home in a week, probably the dealer too. I heard this was a common problem so I figured it was a common part, guess I was wrong.
It's a crappy zinc/aluminum alloy ("pot metal") but I took my bracket to a good welding shop and they put it back together for me - has held up for two years so far, no problems.
my suggestion - get the lever off an older truck. pre-92 it was steel.

I see guys in the local junk year here every winter looking for the very same part! I am shocked no after market has come up with a better replacement! Maybe I need to get a hold of one and see what I can do out in the shop! The old man is a retired machine shop teacher maybe see if he can make one better!
If you do find one at the junk yard ... take it completely apart and clean it good---
bury it in never seize-- too much work to have to do it a second time(( voice of experience!! )) And they always fail when you need it !!
Ebay has plenty of them, but I'm guessing the price goes down in the summer on those :-) .
I found a decent way to ghetto rig mine for the mean time. It gets me 2wd/4wd hi. I could probably get neutral too, but 4lo would be a stretch.
The 'rig' is simple. I took the boot off, pulled the shifter linkage up to about where it should be. Then slid a 6 or 8 inch socket extension under it to hold it up. Zip tie the shifter mechanism to the extension, and it acts just like a pivot. Good enough for now.
