I was planning on putting a v-8 in my '61 f100 but after reading some posts about people keeping and modifing their inline 6's, I've been reconsidering switching to a v-8 and keeping my inline 6. Does anyone have an opinion on a 223 and is there anything that can be done with this motor?

Your 223, if it is of a 63 or earlier vintage,came from the factory with a very healthy mechanical camshaft. I would definately concider a rebuild of this motor, just do a little port matching on the heads and intake,and you will be suprised at the low end power this little inline has. With a mechanical cam and points ignition, it will require some maintanance though. Depending on your rear axle ratio, you wont have very high top speed(many i6 trucks came with 4.11 gears). I say rebuild it and if you need the top end for 70-75mph highway speed, switch to a higher rear gear, or a modern 4-5 speed tranny. I have a post up now asking about this swop on my 64 292.
