fuel

so i was sitting at a light and all of a sudden my truck sounds and acts like how it normaly woudl if it just about out of gas, the thing is i just put 2gals in... it stalls out and refuses to start, i pull the fuel filter and have my friend turn the key. it has fuel coming into the filter, but the filter was only 75% full... im thinking there can only be 2 things wrong with my truck.

air is getting into the system. aka ather the return line (most common leaking from wut i hear)
or the injectors arint letter the fuel go into the cyclinder.... but i dought it is that

wut all could my problem be? any other hoses cause air to get in?

What was the level of fuel in the tank?

Maybe the pick up tube broke at 1/4.

You would have to have a killer leak in the return lines for it to die while its running.

its not good to even know what it runs like when its out of fuel.
2 gals of fuel is not really that much.id add some more.
if $'s tight, and your constantly running the diesel dry, your just going to make it more costly,by ruining the fuel system.it's much cheaper to try and use just the top half of your fuel tank.when your half way out,you need to add some.once you get used to doing that, you will stop sucking up junk on the bottom of the tank, and stop running the system dry.
once you add at least 5 gals of fuel, you should test the fuel pump to see if its pumping or not.its probably bad by the sounds of things,or you dont have enough fuel.

Return lines will not kill the engine. my guess is you were low on fuel and sitting on unlevel ground.

If you have not got it started yet. fill the filter put some fuel in the tank PS if it is empty 2 gal doesn't count and try to start it you may need to bleed it.

well i have never had a problem before with the tank being at below 1/4 level and it dieing. heres the weird thing, im running on a 3rd tank. that was placed on the ride side of the truck. idk if it is hooked to a stock pump or how its all ran, me and a friend pulled the stock main tanks. and ever sence then the truck will have the simpton like it running out of gas..

it will boost by itself even with constant throat, and the boost will only just build as i keep constant throatal (witch is very weird and idk y it does this when its low on gas) then the truck has a really rough sound as if it was out of ton (witch it cant be because there no timing) those have alwasy been the simptons when its under 1gal on gas... sence i pulled the stock tank coudl it maybe be pulling air from the stock hang hoes?? because the tank has around half a tank when we pulled it out, all that seamed to be fresh, even though i hadnt used the tank in over 3-4months. and it was filled at that point, and the week after it was filled it was empty... idk the fuel system on this truck seams to be really fishy if u ask me

When it revs by itself it is sucking air.

sounds like a rigged up failure. No offense but i have repaired and replaced so much rigging in my truck, i can speak from experience. What kind of tank? Was the pickup in the tank replaced before installation? When at full throttle it may be just enough to pull fuel in. Do you have mechanical lift pump or electrical?

sounds like you need to put the stock tanks back on.if your running a tank in the bed how does the fuel gauge read how full it is out of curiosity?i can think of 3 things
1. pick-up tube in the tank
2.faulty fuel pump
3.the fuel cant get out of the aftermarket tank too well.

where do the fuel lines run on the aftermarket tank?top or bottom?i know everyone has alot of questions but we'll get ya goin!!!!

You need to make sure it is plumbed right. When you add a third, do you have an extra selactor valve or what. how is your return hooked up.
What was the reason for removing and not replacing the stock tanks.

i have no idea how any of the tanks r ran. im slowly starting to try and figure out how this truck is done... i know its all pritty much a rig, if u saw my wiring u would know this guy did all his own work, and i applaud him fro it, saved him a tone of money for all the thigns he had hooked up, but it makes it all hard on me.

im going to plug up the hoes, pull my back tank, plug that up and jusr put more fuel in the tank, fill the filter and crank it...

oh btw the fuel gague does not work. i think it was liek a extra tank just incase this guy didnt get to the gas station on time. and yes that does mean i dont have a tank gague
