Well i got a check engine light today and went to the tire shop were one of my friends works. He got 3 codes off of his matco diag tool. First code was number 5 cylinder combustion. Second was number 6 cylinder combustion. And last was exhaust back pressure. I figured the last code was because someone stole my cat and put in a pipe there. But i dont know what to make of the other two. He didnt give me any numbers to go with the codes . Thanks
The scanner he had he just bought. It was a matco that cost him about 8000 dollars. I know when he hooked it up he had to enter the year model plus the tenth letter of the vin. It was really fancy for someone like me who is not very computer smart. Well after i left i reset the computer and hooked it up to my gooseneck and took it for a real hard run. The idiot light never came back on but one thing i did notice was when i put it in park and rev the throttle all the way up it starts blowing blue white smoke. I know my old 97 model did this when the fuel pump was going out. So i guess tomorrow i will try to check the fuel pressure. Maybe all i need is a fuel pump
Do yourself a favor.. buy a $50 code reader that lets you do 2 things:
A) read rudimentary OBDII codes (not the diesel specific ones)
B) let you erase the codes
I got one that does that for $50... coincidentally, resetting means it goes out of limp mode if it is in it
What I am doing is logging all the codes as it comes up.. code, conditions, etc. and then have a log of symptoms... to do diagnosis.. so eliminate a spurious code.
I have a reader but it is not CAN readable. It will just read my gas engine vehicles. I bought it a year ago from autozone and everytime i hook it up it just shows error.
