i am looking for a solid cam for my 460 that has a little lump but is streetable.. maybeup to 5 grand on a basically stock 460..any suggestions would be appreciated
MPG Heads cuts cams for just about any situation. Been running a solid cam for about 5 yrs in my truck and its driven on the street often. been very reliable. But if you do this their are some cam breakin issues need to do. Also mpgheads has a machine that breaks in your cam for you and you install lifters in a specific order and you should be good to go. Mpgheads has been doing this for many yrs. Good place to check into and you can see his engines in popular hot roddin enginemasters.
well i am an old gearhead and i probably run too big a cam and i like the extra500 to 1000 rpm that a solid gives you and no matter the temperature or the oil thickness a solid runs the same and i don't mind setting valve lash and, and, and----but i do mind that there aren't as many cam selections as that other car manufacturer.. i hate to admit it but i used to build their engines before i saw the blue oval light
do you have an adjustable valvetrain?? Gonna need to set valvelash for solid cam. Forgot to ask this before. Solids are great but like mentioned before some maintenance is required from time to time. I probably have 30,000miles on my solid and love it.
This is off base from the original topic, but I wouldn't trust MPG to change the oil in my 91 Toyota. We did business with Scott a few years back and had nothing but trouble. Heads that leaked and caused us to re-ring and bearing a motor. A friend bought a set of Kaase P51's from him and asked if he could run dome pistons with them. Scott said yes and ported the chamber out to fit the pistons without ever asking. They look like aluminum D2 heads now. He charged us an extra $200 for port work that was never done. There are more stories but you get the point.
