Lightbulb Adding dual filament driving lights....

Hello all , I'm adding a set of Hobbs dual filament (high + low beam) driving lights on my F150. My question is if I wire two switches for the lights, one to power the low beams and one to power the high beams, would the lights generate too much heat if I want to occasionally run both beams ? They are 35/65W sealed beam lights. I am using 14 gauge wire, 20 amp switches and 15 amp fuses. Thanks , Scott

That's something you will have to ask the manufacturer. I have also heard this type of operation makes the long distance reach of the lights worse. It makes the very front of the vehicle brighter, so your eyes adjust for that and that impairs your distance vision since the long range lighting from the high beam is dimmer.

i don't know what year your truck is, but look at the attached post. it goes to a sticky in the 80-86 forum that explains how to rewire your headlights utilizing a remote relay, and how to add a "always on dim" switch. i'm planning on doing a step by step write up on the process this weekend. i have the parts sitting in my garage. you may want to consider a larger wire as your relay will run straight off the battery. done properly you should get a good light output increase.
