A few months back I picked up a 1990 XLT,traded some old junk I had laying around for it.it looked pretty solid when I saw it,and it was complete, the interior is nice other then needing to be cleaned and the frame is perfect, another bonus for it.
The po let it sit around for awhile and couldn't get it to start so he did a few less then bright things, needless to say I got it not running.
A couple hours and fuel pump relay and some time with the timming and it runs great, excellant sounding 302.
that is what it looked like when I got it back to the shop
I got it running and stripped the interior out of it.
somebody had done the old girl over before and sandblasted and painted it all undernieth so it looked great from the bottom.
once I got the interior out it was a slightly different story, found some rust in the floors, nothing serious, but more then I figured I would find.the small pocket near the lower front seatbelt bolt area was gone, the inner part of the rocker was bad and some rust in the floor near the toe board.it was the same on both sides.I was going to sell it and buy one that was in better shape, but figured since I didn't really pay anything for it,I might as well fix it and make a good dd out of it.
here are a couple pictures from the ps side,I was able to pull the seatbelt bolt right out of the floor here.I wanted it to look right from undernieth so I just started cutting cardboard templates for what I needed and making patches
the rockers aren't really bad,but to bottom of that pocket is the rocker so I called my friend at the local parts store and he said they had two of rockers that they ordered in years ago that were still there,he wasn't sure if they were the right ones or not so I went to look.
Sure enough they were two oe style rockers, not the slip on type, seeing how they layed around so long I got a great deal on them.
once I got the rockers and what was left of the drop of for the floor out I had to make a new drop off to attatch the rocker too.
I envy you guys in the southern states.
I didn't use the whole new rocker as I planned, the front was fine and that would have been a task to get that out.I used from the door post seam back.welded along the top in a few places and plug welded it to the new drop of.
well most of this whole is fixed, may have gone a little overboard to hide something nobody will ever see,but I will know its there and if I just cobbled it up it would drive me nuts.
Still have some grinding to do and a little more welding but I only had three hours sunday to play with it so I did what I could.
I'm going to get back at it tonight and get this side done so I can move on to the drivers side on saturday.I'll take more pictures tonight.
