First hard start in a while

Well it never fails, rain pouring down I was down at the barn for the whole day and when I went to start back up, I didn't get anywhere. There was no click, no nuthin!! So I tried once more and of course the ignition jammed up a bit and it took me a couple minutes to get it back off. I thought my plugs would be shot so I gotthe test light out and all were still good. Checked ohms and all good. I knew there was one place to look, controller. I checked the voltage supply at each plug and it was only coming in about 2-3V but it was erratic. I wiggled all of the cables and the yellow twins were loose. The nut was tight but they had some play. I tightened it back down with about a full rotation. Jumped in the cab and turned the key, six or seven seconds later I got my click and she blasted to life!!! This is for those hard starters out there and always remember that a systematic approach will prevail. It hasn't started this good since I can remember. I am heading to tomorrow to get a lock washer since it doesn't have one. Best luck all!!!

Systematic is the only way unless you want to just start changing parts till it starts.
That can get expensive.

that was what i did when i first got it. On another note, my kia minivan died on me the other day and i was lost, too many wires and computers. Got online and found the tech system that kia uses to diagnose problems and do repairs. Friggin awesome. The wife was miffed that i wasnt taking it to the shop but i was trying first. I went through the steps and found that the Mass airflow sensor was faulty. I went out and bought a new one, threw it in, blambo!!! like new and my fuel economy is back, even though it still isnt great! Damn i love fixing my own stuff!!

I don't know about the new kia's, but the older minivans got lowsy MPG's for what they were. My wife and i looked at them, and saw only 13-15city and 19 highway for ratings.

We got our dodge in late Oct 09, not even broke in yet, we pulled 21.8 going to Georgia with 7 passengers and luggage. Only 3500 miles on it at that point. Its rated at 23 highway, So I'm REAL happy with it.

yeah i get about 310 miles in town on a tank and i use about 17.5 gallons to get those miles. I know it is a 19 gallon tank but dont want to meddle with this thing hahaha. So i am getting about 16ish in town. On the highway i can pull 20 if i keep it at around 70. Each one is different and for this thing to be still kicking at 106,000 miles without major major problems like i hear about online, i am doing okay. The wife wants a truck though so i may get her a f150 extra cab or similar and trade the van off! hahaha.

She will miss having the trunk space. You'll have to get a hard tonneau cover for it. My wife could not do without it, and now she has more space with 'stow-and-go' compartments in front of the second row. That is nice though, we stuffed alot of our luggage in those for our long trip.

for our last trip i got one of those hard case things for the top and there was no affect on the gas mileage. It was nice to have all the space free'd up inside the van

haha i married a woman that had a vehicle at 18% interest rate! so about a year later and a kiddo i traded my car and hers to ditch the interest rate and we combined them into the kia. It served a purpose and i only owe a couple grand on it. We are almost there. Give me title and this thing will travel! hahaha

My wifes pickup we left in alaska she would drive my 86 instead of her town car . This is MY toy sao a couple years ago I brought her extended cab with the backwards half doors down here and told her to leave my dually alone. I had to put a battery in her town car a couple months ago to sell it, I'll bet she hadn't cranked it in over a year.

About a year ago a Kia all wheel drive something or other hit a Forerunner head on just down from my house.

One or both must have been flying.

And I was blown away that the Kia actually looked driveable, and the Forerunner was trashed, obvoiusly totaled.

And everyone in the Forerunner went to the hospital after they cut the out, the Kia passengers were all standing there talking to the police.

I never in my wildest dreams would have thought a Kia would stand up like that.

my 2005 has 5*'s all the way around for safety, just not in the side impact department, i think it is 4*'s. As far as reliability goes they invented the new negative 5* scale for them! haha
