Having trouble getting my 1999 ford f-350 to start. When I first try to crank it it drags like the batteries are weak. turn the key off and try it again and it turns over normal and starts. Though it might be the glowplugs replaced them still the same thing. Glowplug relay works too.
any help would be appreciated.
sounds like a corroded connection to me. my gasser has done that for a while cleaned up all the points from the battery back and it doesn't do it any more.

Ok thanks but wonder why it does ok after the first crank?
Another problem could be the battery cables themself. Keep in mind that you can't do a visual inspection on the cable where the plastic coating hide the cable from eyesite. Also these truck do have a history of ground problems.
Of course it could be that only one of your two batteries is weak.
Simplest things first, clean all the clamps and post. Pull the ground cable and clean the grounding point. Run up to a local auto parts store and have them test the batteries, keeping in mind that on a diesel it best to replace both batteries at the same time.
AS for why would a bad contact point make sense when it starts the second try. Well it could be the cables have had a chance to warm up after the first attempt, thus allowing for more power to be delived on attempt number 2.
It could be that if it is a ground issue, the first attempt created an a strong enought spark to cause the arch to create a better ground for the second attempt.
