I have a 05 f350 2wd. hearing a roaring noise on front wheels. tires 1month old and alignment with bushing replaced 2mths old. 125k nothing else done to front end. Any suggestion what is going bad. Looked at rotors no sign of improper wearing. Also how do I list my truck mods on every post?
Is the sound from both of wheels? Does it happen all the time, or at certain speeds, or towing/loaded? Are you sure it is from the wheels? Does the sound change when turning vs driving straight? Could it possibly be the engine fan and not the wheels?
I would say from 5mph up and no I dont hear it turning. I dont think its the fan because I dont hear it sitting still. I dont know maybe I'm just looking for something. I just dont remember hearing it before
Hey Bis, I never switched to syn. oil because I hear that I run a risk of clogging the oil strainer. I was told syn. would clean the engine of all the residue created by using regular oil for 124k miles. And particles may clogg the strainer and kill the oil pump
Folks have switched to synthetic oil w no problems. I doubt that it would cause you problems, but if you are concerned then by all means don't do it. I assume when you say strainer that you are talking about the screen to the HPOP? If you do get solids in it and plug it up and then crack it, it certainly can be a problem. However, that does not come from switching to synthetic oil. IMO, if you have residue in your oil system that you are worried about breaking loose, then you have other issues. That being said, staying w/ 15W40 oil is an individual decision - and unless you are having cold weather start issues, you should be quite fine.
As far as the possibility of the fan goes, it is very possible for the fan to be off at idle. The fan is controlled by the PCM and there are multiple inputs it looks at to decide to run the fan or not. Not saying it is the fan, but a roaring noise sure does describe it well.
the weather here is the coldest since i had truck. If the fan is coming on now then i have a cooling issue also.
Not necessarily - IF it were the fan, you might simply have a temperature sensor failure (engine temp or tranny temp or IAT). Stuck thermostats can also cause frequent fan operation.
It sounds like you are pretty sure it isn't the fan. Have you jacked up the truck and checked for excessive wear in ball joints, wheel bearings, etc.?
The best way to see if it is the Fan is once it turns on, it normally stays on for a bit even if you come to an immediate stop.
Pop the hood, and see if it is rolling and roaring... can't miss it.
Bad ball joints, etc. make clunking sounds,
A metallic clink sound when you hit a bump is caused by the sway bar ends wearing out their rubber bushing... and the blocks holding the sway bar being weak...
Watch for the clink sound to come from the opposite side of the bump.
