tire questions

I have a stock '04 FX4 running 265x70/17's (currently on my second set of General Grabber AT2, for which I paid about $125/ea). I want to add 2.5" or 3" front end lift spacers and move up to 33" tires on my stock rims. Can anyone suggest a tire that approximates that price range in a 33"? Also not sure of my rim width, but I'm guessing 7.5 or 8 (factory 17" alloy) so not sure what my max tire width sould be - lots of the 33's I've seen start at 11.5" and I'm worried that this is too wide. Tread width of my current rubber looks to be about 9" with the overall width around 10"... Unfortunately budget is everything here, so If I can't find anything close in price, I'l be forced to get another set of the Generals (skateboard wheels).

Well I can't really help finding a tire for you because the tire I've got is the Firestone Destination AT but it's a little over your price range. I think I got mine for around $150 a tire.

I can help you with the size though. I have 285/70/17s in the Destination ATs with a 1.5" leveling kit. I believe those come out to either 32.7 or 32.9 inches, I can't remember. I love the size with my leveling kit and that size should look nice on a little higher leveling kit too. Hope this helped a little!

265/70/17 = 33" tire

I like my old Goodyear Silent Armor tires.

Hey pb34, what's your rim width? And how do the destination a/t perform in snow/mud/sand? Also, why'd you go 1.5" lift? I thought 2.5" was the standard to get them "level"...

To be honest I'm not sure the rim width. It's the stock 17 inch rims that come on these trucks. The tires perform great! We've had a few good snow storms this year in CT and I've had absolutely no trouble. I also took them off road once on some trails and mud and they worked great there too. I have absolutely no complaints with them.

As for the 1.5" leveling kit, I only did this much because I tow a boat fairly often in the summer. While hooked up the boat makes the back of the truck sag a little bit and when it does that it is just about level. I would rather have the slight rake now and level while towing than level now and squatting while towing. Any more questions feel free to ask!

I have a 04 sc 4x4 with a 2'' auto spring kit. I replaced the rims with american racing +25mm offset and 5.5 backspace and 8 " wide. I have Nitto Tera grapplers 295/70-17. That size is 33.19" by 12" wide. Paid 199.00 per tire. No rubbing issuses with this set up. The whole package mounted, balanced and shipped to my door ready to mount was $1650.
