I have a 61' F-350 with 6 lug 16" split rims and duals on the back. I would like to replace these with a single piece rim. Does anyone make these? If not, what would I need to do to convert it to an 8 lug single piece rim?
I saw an add by Performance Wheel and Tire. They make wheel spaces and adapters to change lug patterns. They say these products used to have bad reputations for failure, but now they are made with better materials (Aircraft grade 6061 aluminum)Any Opinions. Remember this is a 1-ton dump truck.
Charles are you out there? This question came up last year and, as I recall, there were not too many options. I believe that a rear-end swap was about the best alternative. That way you can use the modern 8-lug 16" budd-type rims. But it doesn't solve the problem for the front wheels.
I personally wouldn't go with an adapter for your application. On the other hand, it sure seems that there should be some of these rims out there. Maybe a classified "want-ad" on the FTE classified section might get you what you need.
Unfortunately an axel swap is out of the question for this truck. It has (I'm assuming a special order) a Rockwell International rearend with 5.83 gears. I hate to be fooling with something like that.
I probably should have been more specific, but the swap I envisioned would be to a Dana 70 which I believe should be more or less a direct bolt in. There are many available in the older trucks and yuo should be able to find one with comparable gearing (5.87). Just a thought.
