i have a 7.3
there is oil dripping out the tail pipe
also ther is oil in the inner cooler pipe from the turbo
are the seal in the turbo bad
how hard is it to change them
or should i get a new turbo
I had the same issue recently and it turned out that my CCV hose wasnt routed properly and oil built up in the hose causing backpressure in the system shooting oil theu the turbo and down the exhaust.
Smell the "oil" and make sure it isnt fuel. If it is fuel, then u most likely have a bad injector oring. Is it smoking bad too?

it is oil checked the oil and is was down
below add
there is alot of oil
let in run for afew min and it is dripping out
and ther is alot of smoke
How much oil are you burning in how many miles? If you drive down the road at 40 mph or so, how thick is the smoke behind you? Would it make James Bond jealous?
Sounds like it may be time to rebuild the turbo with lots of oil, smoke and consumption.
I would check the turbo shaft play. If it moves in ant out on the horizontal axis it is likely the turbo is in need of repair. There is supposed to be a lip on the backing plate that a compression ring is supposed to make the seal to. The below image shows the lip pretty much completely missing. If the oil is coming out the exaust it would be because of this seal. When I found mine, once warmed up I would start to get white smoke from the oil starting to burn in the exhaust.
you are right
ccv mod and live in wi
froze up back pressure in crank case and must of blew the seal in the turbo
put a remaned turbo on and seams to be fine now
so now i will run the ccv hose straight down and live with the smell
who would of thought that hose would freeze up and do that
there where solid chunks of ice and oil coming out the end of the hose
live and learn
i was looking for somthing to do on the truck lol
thanks for all the replies

Are u sure the seal was bad on your turbo? When mine did this i thought it was bad too, i fixed the CCV hose and the oil stopped leaking thru the turbo altogether. So your turbo could still be good.
THanks guys, its always nice to have the experience with something like this and share it with someone who is having similar symptoms, never cool to have to go thru it tho.

before i got the new turbo i took the ccv hose off
filled the oil back up to full
ran the truck for alittle and it would still run out the pipe
i was hopping it would stop
leason learned the hard way
if any one had this problem with there truck
i would take the inner cooler out and drain it
i had almost 1 1/2 quarts in mine
and if there is to much oil sucked back thru the truck could run on the motor oil
and high rev i no this will happen on some heavy equipment
the stock garnett
with stock wheel for now
had the wicked wheel in the old turbo took it out before in returned it for the core charge
new one seems ok but lost a little of that whistle
sure is alot less cab whine noise when you get on it lol
maybe i will put the wicked wheel in when it gets a bit warmer here
