Ford never put a automatic overdrive behind the 351m, 400, or 460. The first Ford Automatic Overdrive transmission (AOD) came out in 1980. This was a completely mechanical, light duty transmission. If you had a full size truck, you could only get it behind the 302 engine.

It was the E40D from late 80s F250 and F350 trucks. It is the only od trans Ford made for the 385 series bolt pattern and its computer controlled. I think from 89-97 they were made. AODs can be purchased with the correct bolt pattern as well.

The gear vendors are a ton of money. Either go with a AOD modified for a bbf FB Performance Racing Transmissions - Chevrolet, Chevy, Buick, Olds or get an E4OD out of a late model 460 truck and buy a Baumann trans controller Electronic Performance Products -- Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC and program it with a laptop. The controller is around $400 and is stand alone to work with a carb motor.
