the mechanical fuel pump may have gone out. or you may have a clogged fuel filter. or it could be an electrical fuel pump that has gone out. you don't have dual tanks do you???

I thought the same thing so I went out and bought a new mechanical fuel pump. Its not an electrical fuel pump, I have a single tank. I can't find a fuel filter anywhere in the lines honestly... I was thinking perhaps one was in the carb? But that still would not explain why no fuel reachs the carb.
there should be an electrical fuel pump mounted on your fuel tank that could've gone out. maybe your fuel pickup tube inside the gas tank broke off or something.
I believe the fuel filter is inside the carb. Also my truck doesnt have a electrical fuel pump it has a fuel sending unit (brand new) that sits in the gas tank (also brand new) pumped by the mechanical fuel pump on the engine.
SO your not getting gas to the carb. Is this a fact or a thought? if a fact ware are you looking for gas at? Trouble shooting 101 : start at one end and work your way to the other. Pull the line out of the carb, if no gas pull the supply line to the pump and using a pump of some sorts try to draw gas from the tank if unable you might have clogged your pick up sock... how much gas did you put in the tank? Your SURE there is more in there.... if you can get to the top of the tank remove the supply line to the pump and using compressed air at a LOW Psi like 8 or so see if you can blow air through the line to the pump, if that is open then its in the tank.
A lot of the older carb engines used a filter that attached to the carb and was inline with the supply from the pump. The old pump would pump mud I think ! LOL
Alright I feel retarded and most of you all mentioned to first check it so... my tank was empty! haha its the most happiest yet dumbest thing i've ever done. Went and filled a couple cans of gas, put em in the tank and wam! Started right up! I want to thank everyone for going out of their way to help me. Stay tuned for my journal/projects thread!

Its how you learn! My first truck I do not recall what I was doing to it but I had removed the supply line from the tank to the fuel pump and forgot to replace it. Dove it over to a friends place, went to leave truck fired up, I backed out of his drive and it died? Took me about a hour to recall that damn line was off! LOL
gas gauge on my first truck didn't work. i always managed my fuel level according to mileage. snapped the speedo cable one day, didn't get to it for a week or two. ran out of gas and i couldn't figure out why, cause according to my mileage i still had at least 100 miles left... DUH!!! My dad laughed at that one for a while. live and learn, thats why we're all here.
Now the fuel sending unit is brand new, so is the actual gauge ran off of something else too? My neighbor said sometimes you've got to fill the tank and go through it all a couple times to sync the gauge and sending unit.
