I have a 2002 f350 with a 7.3 and though were no experts me and all my buddies think that i lost an injector it sounds like its missing and it idles really rough sorry like i said im no expert but if any one has any input i would greatly appreciate it, on a site not i already scanned it with an OBD II and no codes came up so i dont know if its one injector or a PCM or IDM. Thanks
it is very common for the valve cover gaskets and injector wiring harness to go bad. I have fixed alot of 7.3's with valve cover gaskets and injector harness that have had missing and rough idle concerns napa usually has them in stock and their pretty easy to do replace both sides. Also if you have access to a Bi-Directional Scanner like a Snap On Solus you can buzz test them and see one is not firing right you do it by listing to them buzz but i would do the harness and gaskets first then you can get into looking at injectors and moving them to check the Injector Driver Module and wiring to make shure the miss doesnt move. But 99% of the time gaskets and harness will fix them.
yep those are the puppies and you shouldnt have to replace the splice on pig tal that they give you unless yours is corroded or melted if you want to make your life easier get a set of metric 1/4 drive shallow universal sockets to get the bolts out that are down on the bottom of the right valve cover i believe their 12mm you can buy individual sockets at sears for a few bucks youll thank me thats the worst part of the job
alright cool once again thanks man i've done some motor work before on older project trucks but this is my first time tearing into a new diesel and i just wanna make sure i get every thing right
no problem ive wrenched on anything form a inline 3 cyl 20hp diesel to v16 3000 hp 2 stroke and v 12 and 4500 hp 4 stroke v 12 anything from tractors to truck to locomotives so ive seen a little bit of everything
tore it all down and though the injectors had some carbon build up and the rings were bad i dont think they were actually bad. had a bent push rod and broken rocker pedestal pretty common as i've been reading and i thought letting my truck warm up al those times was good for it i replaced both peices and drove the truck a little, those new 70+ hp injectors kick a$$ but then the rod bent again so im gonna tear the motor down and send the heads out and redo the valve over the next couple days
