Ok this just keeps getting better the more I work on it. No problem getting the new heater core in but when I removed the hoses the quick connects broke from the heat and old age. Tryed to just put the hoses on with clamps but I am afraid to tighten up to much as not to mash the tube. Cannot find any auto parts store that carry the replacement hoses. Hope to not have to go the ford for these. Some of the parts houses carry the quick connect only but they do not match.
I went through this a couple of years ago when I replaced all the hoses on my engine including the heater hoses.
We had a tough time finding the correct tool to use on the quick connect couplers but finally managed to get them off.
I had ordered from my local home town parts jobber replacement hoses for everything including the 2 heater hoses-all in GATES stuff, and when they came in they did not have the quick couplers-my parts guy called his supplier who told him that NO replacement heater hoses had these quick couplers and that they were made that way on purpose and to just slide the hoses on the nipples of the heater core and use a band clamp on them which we did and never have had any problems-just don't get crazy on tightening and you will be fine-the nipples on the core are every bit as strong as the older ones that we routenly use band clamps on. Good Luck!
I was planning on replacing the 2 heater and both radiator hoses on my 2000 7.3 F-350 this spring. I do believe they may be the original factory hoses and I am at 116K miles on the truck. I have checked them over thoroughly and they are not soft and spongy anywhere and the condition of them seems perfect. I do not have any problem replacing them as part of preventative maintenance before the summer camping/towing season. However, I am wondering if I should just buy new ones for back up spares and put some more time on the existing. Any thoughts on hose replacement interval for these 4 hoses?
