first breakdown @ 55k miles...

first one in nearly 3 years, can't complain too much but of course i had to be out of town when it happened. took off hard from a stop to beat a light and lost all power. engine light came on but nothing on the info center (you'd think these things are smart enough now to know what's happening). limped at idle off the roadway blowing diesel out the back real bad. any thoughts?

Sorry to hear about it... Take it to dealer... Emissions warranty almost certainly will cover it.. unless you ran out of fuel.. had bad fuel... or had fuel filter service issues.

Not what any of us wanted to hear.

They are smart enough to know what happened. They just don't tell us without an interpreter (code reader).

Hope it's really minor.

Seems like we are seeing more and more EGR Valve failures, let us know if thats what your problem is. Sounds like it, but thats just guessing cause it's common right now. On the good news you will get the changed design EGR Valve if they replace it.

my vote goes for the EGR failure of some kind. Seems to be a common thing right now.

It was an EGR failure. And I'm damn glad of it because while in the shop they discovered a leaking radiator that was beyond repair. I was notified that the EGR was covered but the radiator replacement had an estimated, out of warranty cost over well over $1000. The service manager said he'd do whatever he could to get them to help out some. He called the next day to say he found a service recall on a thermostat problem that he decided "could have" led to the radiator issue...so the powertrain warranty ended up covering it. Now if I can just get it back...biggest snow of the year and I'm stuck with the wife's mini-van.

glad that is what the issue was, yes there is a TSB on the radiator/thermostats being part of the issue with some of the radiator's.

You did get the venturi-T completed?

I know it's cliched as hell but..."I got my baby back, baby back, baby back..." --and I don't even like Chili's. $2000 saved thanks to thoughtful service rep...I guess they're not all bad. Now if I can just get the tires that have been back ordered for going on 3 weeks.

I had planned to do just that...seems like we complain about them considerably more often than patting them on the back.
