I had to pull the passengerside head off my 83 F250 6.9 this week because I broke a glowplug tip off in the head. So, I have the head back on the motor and I was bolting the rocker arms back on (going by the book, Chiltons) and when I started torqueing the last ones down I snapped the bolt and the piece that looks like this _n_ in half. How am I supposed to torque these down. Do I turn the motor so the valves should be closed at the rockers I am installing? Because when I was torqueing the bolts down that broke it was clearly trying to push the valves open before it broke. The book sucks.
Also... where can i find another piece that lookes like this _n_? It goes from one rocker to the other.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry in Nashville
On my 86 6.9 The peice that goes across has been replaced by a new part that dosnt look anything like the old one,I searched all over and had to get one from FORD.Im not sure about the torqe
The original 6.9 rockers are weak, and they wear out, and they break, guess you know about the last part.
A much better rocker in the 7.3 style, they bolt right in.
No need to roll the engine over as you install them, just run them down to torque, the roll the engine over and recheck the torque.
For what it is worth, Advance Auto has them listed as in stock, 12 dollars.
So it looks like you can replace them all for 96 dollars.
Cool man thanks! Thats what I like to hear! Now I just need to find a dipstick tube and the hard fuel line with the heater on it and Ill be able to drive my truck again!!!
Does that fuel heater really do anything or would you suggest I get find one?

Thats what I wanted to hear! Thanks! All I need to find now is a dipstick tube and the hard fuel line that comes off the pump with the fuel heater on it... Is that fuel heater really necessary or can I just put a hard line on it to replace it?
