Not sure how up to date this information is but back when I was working
for the railroad, General Motors' locomotives had 2 stroke diesel engines
and the General Electric locomotives had 4 stroke diesel engines.
It's just a design philosophy, I couldn't hear a real difference in the two.
Just see a difference, always like the looks of the GE's better is all. :)
