v10 tuner

My kids bought me a Hypertech III tuner for my 1999 SD v-10 for Christmas, is this a decent tuner for the Ford v-10, never have used one.

I'd return it if you can. I used to run canned tunes (SCT) in my V10 and realized how bad they were when I got my custom tunes. My dad used to be running a diablosport with canned tunes on his V10 but not anymore. We both have SCT Xcals with Custom Tunes from www.5startuning.com The performance tunes and tow tunes are the chit. Good thing is an Xcal3 with custom tunes is well under $400 from 5 Star.

I have read a lot of the threads on here and performance reviews regarding 5 Star Tuning and decided today that I am putting my order in in the morning, after I crawl around the truck and gather all the required info. The good reviews sent me looking, but then when I realized the owner actually owns, drives and tows with his V10 SuperDuty, I was sold for sure.
So chalk up another vote for Mike @ 5 Star Tuning!

I agree with the SCT X3. I have one for my V10 excursion and a Hypertech for the V10 F250. Hands down the SCT is the way to go IMO.

So for an occasional driver. Is a tuner worth it?
I just bought the truck and the man I bought it from said he gets around 13 MPG.
70K on replacement crate motor.
I will not be pulling more than a couple 4 wheeler's or snowmobiles.

Tuner help

Tuner won't give you any better mileage that means anything. When I bought mine I was pulling a 14,000 lb 5th wheel with a 16 ft boat behind that. It was a big help. Now only pull a 19 ft boat and never use it. With what you say you are pulling it wouldn't help you any, and maybe hurt by using the towing tune and shifting like you have a load and you don't really have any load. With the standard tune you should never know that trailer is behind you.

Called 5-star to inquire about a tuner for my 2008 V10. Sadly, he said they cannot ship to CA. <Insert CA Joke Here> Does anyone have an alternative or a work-around to this particular situation?
