I had my truck in the dealer on 12-21 for a new fuel pump and a couple cosmetic items. Due to the pump replacment and pressure test the PCM and FICM were reprogrammed. How can i tell if i have the newest flash from october or if i still have the older heat inductive flash. i dont recall seeing anything on the bill...thanks
I don't have it Yet...but I understand you should hear the turbo sweep its vanes every few minutes while at stop and idling. Not sure about the pre-ignition buzz...if that's still there or not.
No buzz...I got the heat inductive flash about 9 months ago when it was in the shop......I dont let it idle alot but I may go let it run for a bit and see if i hear it. i was assuming since the reprogramming was done it would be on there...
My flash wasn't on the bill either after FICM. I called them and they confirmed it was done. How long does it need to idle before it sweeps? And what are the characteristics of the sweep, meaning does it just high idle for a bit then back to low idle? I don't let mine idle for more than 5-10 min in the morning when I leave for work.
My high idle seems to come on sooner than it used to, maybe b/c its 15 deg with the wind chill today. But it came on @ 2 min after starting it this morning. Is it just hi then low idle, or don't you know? Just curious.
I've had the turbo cycle for two years with the inductive heat flash, scared me at first cause I thought I was losing my turbo, sitting at a traffic light and it all of a sudden started to squeal, then would stop, then it would go again.
Ok. My truck has been sitting for two days. After 1:30 or ccutting it on the elevated idle kicks in and i can hear the turbo cycleing...i have noticed some blueish-gray smoke on start up that i have never noticed before. Also, isnt this flas suppose to help with the egr issue on ideling. if so i might be more inclined to let it warm up so 5-10 minutes on really cold mornings. i have the high idle but usually dont let it idle that long....
Smoke could just be from sitting and being cold. Mine does it too, I haven't lost any coolant so I'm not real concerned with it. I have to go out later, taking the kids to the ice rink (indoors) tonight, I'll give it a better listen then. Maybe one of the techs will chime in and give us the skinny.
One theory I am intrigued by is that water and oil vapors from the CCV system freezes in the intake system.
When you start up again, the warming / shaking may dislodge it as ice particles.. it hits the intake valves.. and turn to water and oil vapor.
The other theory is it is unburnt diesel fuel... from one or more cylinders where the glow plug has not heated it enough to sustain compression ignition of that cylinder's charge.
