truck is a 2005 5.4 with about 30k on it. 4wd worked great last week but today i get nothing. light will not come on and it will not engage. checked the lines to the hubs and they look good. all fuses are good also. what else should i check and how do i check them?
i checked the plug going into the transfercase and when the switch is turned it gets power. so i am assuming it is the actuator or whatever its called on the transfercase that is the problem? or am i totally wrong
With the light not coming on it could be a relay or fuse. Does your 4x4 work and maybe the dash light is just burned out? If you turn sharply in 4x4 do you feel the typical "jerkiness" in the front end when in 4x4? Do you get the light if you shift to 4x4 low?
Might be better able to nail down the problem with a little more info.
4x4 does not work at all. from what i have read it is the servo motor. i pulled the plug and when i turn the swtich from 2-4 and vice versa the light goes on and off. so i will replace the servo motor and see how it goes
Just went through this last week, if you have power to the shift motor on the tranfer case odds are its the offending piece. I had one strip gears and another burn up the shift motor, The last time I made one from the 2 prior failures. Next step is going manual for me.
I had this same problem, check the vacume hose barbs on the axle wheel ends. They are steel not brass and they can rust completely shut. You would think Ford would spend the little bit of $ to use Stainless or brass in critical areas that are exposed to SALT and road grime but NOOO. So check them, if you do not apply vacume to the wheel ends the front hubs will say engaged!
