I have a 99' EB. While I was parked, I notice the shifter starting to become hard to shift from park to drive. I made it home but the vehicle will not shift out of drive! I shut the engine down, put on the parking brake, and tried to make some calls to repair shops. PROBLEM...cannot get the shifter into park to start it! Is this a problem anyone on the board has experienced? Any ideas how to get the vehicle started? Prompt responces would be appreciated!!!
I had the same thing happen and took it to the dealer.
Find and follow the linkage under the truck and you
should find 2 bolts missing from it. I don't remember
exactly where it was, but I don't think it was to difficult
to find.
I know it's been a week, but did you get it fixed? I bought a 2000 EB and had it for 2 weeks and had a similar problem except mine happened while backing out of a parking space and got stuck in park. Checked out the linkage where it attaches to the transmission from under the truck. The linkage was attached and secure. I moved the plastic lever on the transmission that the linkage was attached to and this would allow me to shift through the gears. I moved it to drive while someone held the brake with the engine running and drove it to the dealer. The problem was the cable broke inside the shielding. They replaced the cable and all was fine. I hope this helps.
just had this hapen to me and found out that if I turn the key to the right just one click, this allows me to put the shifter in Nuetral and start the truck. I have a 99 Expedition with the shifter stuck in drive, but using this technique to start and put the truck in gear, it runs fine. Heard something about a steering solonoid. Anyone else here anything this possible repair?
I think in your case it sounds like the problem is the brake interlock (or whatever it is called). If you can't get it out of park without turning the key to 'position 1', odds are your brake light switch is defective. (Like you say, there is an electrical solenoid powered through the brake pedal switch.)
Took it into the Ford Dealership today. Found that the faulty Cruise Control mechanism that is on the recall notice was burning up and causing a short, thus blowing the brake on/off fuse.
lucky me, This actually was all a miscommunication with the spouse. It's her truck and when I was driving it on one of our trips, I noticed the Cruise Control wasn't working and she indicated that she had the system diconnected per the instructions from the recall notice.
Well, unbeknownst to me, it was still connected and the thing could have gone inferno in my garage. Beautiful.
Well, all fixed. and on a side note. I used to have a problem with the rear window wiper, meaning it didn't work. As of today, it works as well. So that whole circuit was goofed up and who would have known what was attached to it.
