I am slowly planning on building a new engine for my 92 f20 which currently is still running the stock 351 with 267000 miles on it. Still runs great but its time for a new one. I have my hands on a complete 94 351 roller block. (Not sure if its roller equipped.) Also got a hold of 69 heads with the larger ports and valves. I am confident i can build a decent engine but this is my first ford so i just need a little advice. Can I use these heads with the efi setup and this block, what would be a decent cam nothing extreme just a little more power for a roller assembly and flat tappet. Also emissions are not a concern of mine. I plan on leaving the rotating assembly stock. And Im not sure I want to get into any maf conversions seems a bit on the race side for me. I know its a lot of questions but thats what we are here for right. Any tips advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Oh and I will be sure to photo document the whole process.
Those heads are good and yes they will work, port match the lower intake to the heads, install the Comp 35-349-8 roller cam and add some longtubes and you won't believe it's the same motor. If that motor came out of anything besides a Lightning it will have a roller cam.
i dont know if i mentioned it but the current and soon to be new engine are both stock efi setups. im also toying with the thought of a 393 stroker. im sure this means larger injectors. i think they are 19 stock so 24's ought to work i would imagine
Injector requirements are based strictly on how much air the engine flows, and the 393 you build would certainly have much better than stock heads on it I hope, so you'll also need a MAF conversion and a tuner to make it run to it's potential. Larger injectors are simply not compatable with the stock SD efi system in your truck now so the limit of the stock injectors is also your upgrade limit.
after much research and deliberation on what i want to do thats within my budget heres what is pretty much a final plan for me.
stock rebuild on the block using oe roller cam
c90e heads w/60cc chambers larger ports and valves
edelbrock 3881 truck manifold
summit racing headers
arp fasteners through out
the top end of this engine ought to be able to breath pretty good id imagine. i have to do the math on the compression ratio to see what pistons i want to use. lunati makes a few cams that are friendly to these engines but i think it might put me over budget. my main concern is airflow and i think i got that covered and when done it should have a decent amount of power.
ive calculated my compression ratio and it about 10.5:1. also i pulled the intake off the donor, after breaking off three bolts good thing im not using those heads, and the block is a roller. i was happy to see the spyder and dog bones. probably the only thing left in that block that can be reused.
