If you want a towing and working truck defiantly go with the 550 and defiantly take Barney's advice when it comes to these trucks.

I can fill my tank up and it will level out below the fill line.
The 550s may have the same physical bearing, but the wheel flange section of it should be different, to accomodate the 8 on 225mm hub pattern. Vs our 8 on 170mm pattern. I dont remember when they went to 10 lug, I think that may have started in 05. But that one has 8 lugs. And should be the 8 on 225mm pattern.

I love mine and wouldn't want to drive anything else.

Barney
I saw Barney's F550 in person and he just had to get me on the ground to look at the rear axle.... GODZILLA lives back there!!! It's H U G E ! ! ! (and the rest of the truck is SWEET!!!)

Barney & Dan are going to be your best sources I'd say, given that they own & drive 550s.

I was really hoping for Barney's input. I saw his truck at RRE and that is one heck of a truck. Thanks, guys. Right now something else came up so this may get put on hold for the time being. Not necessarily a bad thing but something that shouldn't have been a problem that was. I don't care to elaborate any more than that.

LOL He did the same thing with me yesterday Brendan. I couldn't believe the size and when he told me it took 13 quarts I was amazed. Thats bad when you have as much gear oil in your axles as motor oil in your motor.

I own an oil change store here in Texas and pretty much all 7.3's do that! I changed the oil on my buddy's 7.3 and he asked why I didnt top off the coolant. I told him it will be right back to that level in 50 miles! So I filled it, he lives 45 miles from my store called when he got home and it was back to where it was.
