oil temp sensor question

Why would someone have stripped the two wires going to the oil temp sensor and taped them together? It looks like it was done intentionally.

Or possibly someone probed one in the past, it shorted and the two melted the insulation off. I don't know. There was about 2 inches of insulation missing on the wires and they were taped back together. I just noticed it on my 94. I pulled the wires apart and taped them individually so they aren't touching but I really need a new connector for it. It's a wire harness for a 97 I have on it. And the sensor is from the 97.

What would these two wires do to the computer if they are shorted together?

It will cause an EOT limp.
Bet is you have alot of cold start smoke.
The EOT effects fueling/timing/ idle rpm/gp on time.
EOT in limp will assume cold start of -29*f
and running temp of 212*f. It should cel in limp.

I have been getting a lot of smoke on cold starts lately. No CEL though. It's been smoking at start ever since I did the injector o rings a few weeks ago. It didn't smoke a bit after I taped up the wires and the engine was still cold. I'll see tomorrow morning how she acts.
My engine hasn't been wanting to warm up much either. Even with the fan off, radiator blocked and a new thermostat. This might just have been it.
I need to hurry up and get the 94 pcm changed over so I can put my scanner on and see things like this a lot easier.

I thought you transferred everything from the 97 cali?
What exactly is in the 94 now (97 parts)?

I swapped the injectors, wiring harness and IDM over to teh 94. I'm sending the 97 PCM out to get reflashed at DP tuner I think it was. I wanted to also get a chip with a high idle and some other stuff while they got it. It's still go the eec4 computer in the 94 for now. It's sure running better now!!! I found the oil temp wire by accident while I was changing the fuel filter. I thought I looked at it good but I must have missed the wires, or it just happened recently somehow.

You have some miss wiring along with split inj's.
The PCM pinouts are not the same 49 vs cali.
The changes are in/at the pcm and wire harness.
Pop the 97 pcm in for now and run it.
Iam suprised it will even start/run with the 94 pcm.
It has to be in some sort of limp or the 97 parts were not a cali.
I would have to look at the ckt wiring to see what exactly is not
same. I just do not recall it.
